liver for lulu

My earliest memory of Lizzie was when I was in high school. She was in fifth grade.
She was telling us how she only liked older guys. She would not go out with anyone younger than sixth grade. Spunky, hilarious, and apparently mature beyond her age.

Fast forward to now. Years later. A cute wife and sweet mommy of two adorable kids. Picture perfect, right?
But now her sweet little girl needs help. She's fighting Alpha 1 Anitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic disorder that causes liver and lung failure.
And now, after three weeks in the hospital, she has H1N1.

Read about this sweet girl, London, aka Lulu here.

Of course, things like this cost a lot of money. You can read about how you can help with the "Liver for Lulu" fund on that blog, too.

Cyd, Lizzie's sister (and one of my favorite friends ever) asked if I would make some onesies for the cause.
I still like my birds, so I stuck with them. I also tried out the ruffle butt onesie from this tutorial. Besides ironing them all before I took pictures, there are a few things I would do differently but isn't that how crafting goes?
On each onesie I put a little birdie on the back and a little, blue "liver for lulu" sign wherever it fit in.

I am still trying to create a "brand" for myself. That day, I liked, "cyi made." I came up with a logo and put a little label on the back of each one. But I still can't decide. I am so indecisive. I need more feedback.
These ones have been sold but If you want me to make you one with the two birds in a cage, I would love to. If you need it for a baby boy, I can make it in black, too. I have sizes 0-3 mo., 6-9 mo., and 12 mo.
For $15, I will make it, wrap it up cute, and send it to you, and all of the money will go to help sweet, tiny, Baby Lulu.

been hosting

Many years ago, this Utah girl found herself in the big city of Chicago. My first year teaching and I decide to take on a class in the Chicago Public Schools. 33 students, 23 of them boys. I am telling you, it was loud and it was hard. No recess, no playground, 20 minutes for lunch, and a big-city-used-to-be-a-cop-and-proud-of-it boss, and, well, it was quite the reality check for this thought-teaching-was-supposed-to-be-like-a-fairytale-because-she-went-to-USU girl.
One of the reasons I was able to get through it was my mentor teacher, Elisa. She lent me supplies when I showed up with almost nothing. She handed me the box of tissues when I showed up in her classroom crying. She helped me get through it and eventually succeed. I am so grateful. Oh, and she also taught me how to make the tastiest Mexican rice ever.
Elisa recently came to visit. I was so excited.

We took her up to Moss Ledge for a picnic dinner and s'mores.
The kids had so much fun climbing and finding sticks and rocks (seriously, remind me why we keep going to Chuck-E-Cheese). Eva found the cutest rocks in perfect shapes. A heart, a diamond, a square, a trapezoid, a pentagon...
This is what Eva looks like when she finds out that Samuel threw her rocks into the stream. That kid is so fast. None of us saw him do it.

Elisa and I have a lot interests in common. She loves to scrapbook. Can you believe it? I go all the way to Chicago and I find a scrapbooker. So, in the short time she was here, I showed her "my Utah."

Zumba class
Creme Brulee French Toast
Hip and Humble
Koo de Ker
Lunch at Mezza
Heartland Paper Co.
Roberts
the Quilted Bear
Dinner at Tin Angel
Elaines Quilt Block
Pho Green Papaya

Just a few of my favorite places to go. We both had a great time.
I decided I love having visitors. Family? Friends? My guest room is open!

been taking pictures

Have been feeling creative lately. Baking, sewing, decorating, and taking a bunch of pictures. I would do these things all night if I could. Okay, okay, sometimes I do. I want more hours in the (kids are asleep, I can get some stuff done) day so I can keep up with all of the stuff I want to do and blog about it.

Took another photo class. This was a "field trip" where we brought our kids (and couldn't listen to any instruction because kids were climbing on me) and learned how to take pictures of them. To be honest, I don't feel like I got my money's worth for the class. On the positive side, I did get a few favorite shots.

I decked my kids out all Utah-chic for this one. If you live here or have visited, you know what I am talking about.
Photobucket
This candid shot is my favorite. Probably because it pretty much sums up my kids.
See this smile? It says, "I will do whatever it takes to get presents." I had two presents waiting in the car and Samuel asked if he could have them after every shot. That kid and presents I tell you.

Photobucket

Karl took the kids up to Bear Lake and his family's cabin for a night.
While they were up having a blast, I had a little "retreat" down here with friends.
Since we have been friends for so long, it is so relaxing to be with them. I love it so much.
In the morning, we had an impromptu photo shoot. You know, just to capture this time in our lives...
We were in the store the other day and a stranger stops my friend and says, "Your belly is just perfect." She's right.
I got to use Courtney's camera. It was light, it was fast, it was fun, and yes, I want one really bad. Someday...

This one ended up being my favorite of little Stephen. So simple. So sweet.

kristi

I am sick of the China posts.  They are starting to all feel the same.  Went here, ate yummy food, saw a funny sign, repeat, repeat, repeat... I am still not done.  One day I will finish.  Just because I feel compelled to.  I am sure there is a name for such a problem.  In the mean time...
This is Kristi.
She is great.  Greater than great.
She had a birthday while I was in China.  I hope it was good.  If I was a better friend, I would know.
She has been my friend for over 20 years.  Yep, over 20.  When I first met her she was grounded and couldn't leave her front porch.  Yep, grounded.  That is how long we have been friends.
Now I am kind of wondering, "Kristi did something wrong?  Why would SHE be grounded?"
She is everything I am not and wish I was.  But then I know we have so much in common because we keep laughing at the same things.  Sometimes long after the joke is over.   And then we laugh because we are still laughing.
We look so happy in this photo because we just had a fabulous meal together full of great friends and great conversation.  Come to think of it, we have had many a fabulous meal together.  Dating back to the days that we thought Taco Bell and Subway were about as fabulous as they get.  We are much wiser now in our meal choices.  This one was at the Tin Angel.  SO good.  I will post about the meal... someday.  Some people are skinny because they are not food lovers.  Kristi, is a food lover AND she is so so so skinny (which is why I had to debate with my superficial self on whether or not it was a good idea to post a photo with me standing next to her).  Isn't that awesome?  I love eating with food lovers, even if they are hollywood skinny.   I love Kristi.

favorite little friends

I love this picture of the kids at the library.
Not posed. Just them enjoying their books in their giant chairs.
Cute cousin is in the middle. For whatever reason, when there is one more, it seems to always be a party.
Sara is another friend that gets along with both the kids. And, well, I like to hang out with her mom, so it all works out.
Ballet. The kids are doing "Bella Dancerella." So sad that Samuel has learned to be more self conscious. I guess those days couldn't last forever. And I guess I loved it so much because I probably knew that they wouldn't last forever.
