I did it!

I arranged babysitting (thanks, Dad, April & Alex for being willing). In the end Karl stayed with Eva and Samuel (I will not say babysat because it is a contraversial issue of whether or not you can babysit your own kids or if it is just called parenting). I got there and they let us go after half an hour of nothing. I got a little bit of reading done and there was a guy there that was so Dwight from the Office-esque that it was entertaining. He was amazing people about his job as a security guy at some correctional facility. I was ready for him to talk about bears, beets or Battle Star Galactica at any time. Along with a detailed education about this guy's job I walked away with a check for $18.50 (also made out to my maiden name?).

Wow, I had no idea that they gave ceritficates to jury participants. Good thing you have a blog so you can document this speical award. I wonder if I can petition to get selected...
Do I need to start a letter campaign to my local representative?

$18.50! Wow. Did you even make the jury? In Texas, we only get $6 and that's if we make the jury. If you don't make the jury you get nothing.

Sorry. Upon a closer reading I see that you got the $18.50 for just a half hour of sitting there listening to the security guard. I wish you would have talked about Battlestar Gallactica with him. Aren't you glad you did it?

You're rich! $18.50 = 4 gallons of gas - SWEEEEEET - go drive around town . . . it's on the city.

YUCK! I'm so glad I have not had to do jury duty yet. I hope you at least took yourself out to lunch with the 18.50. Or maybe you had to use it to pay the "babysitter" :)

I have been dreading the day I have to do that. I did get summoned once but I had a newborn baby so I got out of it.

We often have this discussion with the kids about dad "babysitting." They always want him to babysit but that makes me mad. :)

Wow. Thank you for serving your civic duty. I barely dodged that bullet in the fall -- right during a time when we had two extra kids living with us. I was like, "What am I going to do with five kids? Are you kidding?" Luckily, I wasn't needed.
