TMI?

There are a few questions I have about blogging. I think it is these questions that kept me from getting started. First, how much information is too much information? Like, people don't want to hear about all my dirty laundry right (by the way, I made myself finish the laundry before I could blog tonight. I hate doing laundry. Oh man, see what I mean? People don't really want to know that, right?)? Next, I noticed that different people are taking different measures for security. I see there are passwords, invitations, code names, no listing of last names or home towns, etc. What is the best way to do it? I mean, I am not planning on posting my social security number or bank number or anything like that but how "careful" do I need to be?

I have some of the same questions. It's such a fun tool to keep in touch with friends/family but you don't want crazies out there stalking your family. Sorry, I didn't answer your question. I hope someone does cuz I want to know too!

I think it's personal. I'm not private because I had some problems with families not having their passwords to their email, which you have to have to log in to someone private. It made it complicated, but I may decide to go private one day.

Get sitemeter if you don't already have it. It's pretty easy to monitor who is visiting your site.
Also you can make sure it's not google searchable. That way people can only get to your blog if they know the address or from a link posted on one of your friends blogs.

Also Nate always tells me not to post anything that could potentially be blackmail material or that might interfere with your future presidential campaign.

And, actually I still wonder sometimes about blog appropriateness. It's a convenient and fun way to keep in touch but I definitely feel WEIRD sharing personal stuff on the internet.

I love your blog, by the way. We miss you guys.

Emily, how do you make your blog not searchable through Google? Thanks for the tips.

1) I am happy to learn about any information you want to share. I take great comfort in the fact that other people besides just me hate doing laundry.

2) Ross and I have randomly run into a lot of people we thought we had lost touch with due to blogs. That's why private = bad - people can't find you.

3) Don't post your SS#. Just don't do it.

I am so glad you asked these questions. I am seriously seeking the same things and wondering- is there blogging etiquette? I need a crash course. I am probably doing it all wrong... thankfully I read this before I did my post listing all of our socials.

I have to agree with Kris Tina. By the way, for all who don't know, she lives in Chicago, married a man named Ross (but not really), enjoys being a lawyer...

by the way, Kris Tina, how is your head?

A deleted comment? Did I do that? The author of the blog or author of the comment?

I think that last blog comment was deleted by the author. I think it would say "Deleted by administrator" if you did, and you would remember if you did, because it is a pain to do.

Michelle, it is an option on your blog to not be searchable through Google. Just go into "Settings" and wander around and you should find it. I went off searchability recently and now you can only find our blog via my brother's blog (which apparently is searchable).

On too much information, I think that each blog kind of adopts its own style and if people think you put too much info, they stop reading. I have three different blogs (family, ideas and entertainment reviews) so people can get as much information as they want.

On security, I concur with your husband.
